Social Media Does More Harm Than Good

Social media is a popular platform that is vastly used for global communication and interaction by different group of people. With the introduction of social networking websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram, Googleplus and services like Whatsapp, Viber, Imo and so on. It has gained astounding popularity. But I personally believe that this social media ding mor harm than good.

One of the most important advantages of social media is that it enables different groups of people ti share their ideas, knowledge and information. But this maks it convenient for unwanted people such as stalkers and cyber bullies to gain access to their personal information and increase the chances of identity theft. Thus social media provides a perfect hunting ground to this cyber predators to hunt down their targets. So cyber bullies easily pass on inappropriate comments threats and sometimes even demand ransom saying they would stop harming the attacked users in extreme cases.

Another issue which is closely related to the breach of privacy is hacking. Because social networking sites do not offer proper security measures to their users. Many computers used by networkers are vulnerable to hackers. Every bit of personal and professional information becomes available to those skilled in science without the knowledge of network. Hackers these are even attacking companies in this way in hopes of attaining the information they need. Along with the ability to hack is the ability to plant Viruses. Many viruses today are passed through social media often undetected.

Another negative impact o social media is that while it promises to connect people all over the world, in recent times it seems to be doing the opposite. As it is now possible to communicate with someone with just a few clicks, people do not feel the need to physically meet up with their friends or show u in family gathering anymore. This affects their verbal and social skill, cause social isolation which triggers anxiety, stress and psychological mood and often even harms them at professional levels.

Thus, although social media nowadays play an essential role in people’s lives. The negative impact that is causes cannot be overlooked any way. It is responsibility of the individual to find a balance and not let their life center around social media.
